generally, i am poor, but thats because I'm an armor and title "rent girl".

on my monk I have well over 500k in weapons (and 250k of irretrievable FoW pants), but only 7ishk gold at any given time....I dont see a problem with that considering I only PvP anymore.

if I need to make money I can, and if I'm not hunting for a title I don't care how much I have. I find that with slavers hardmode around its mighty easy to obtain what you want in the game if you put some time in.

I love when ppl talk about having no gold, but they have ectos in storage and over two complete sets of FOW armor on characters. The reason is that they spend it as soon as they get it. Net worth is what the question should be. I love when one ppl complains to another saying I only have 55K in storage and 40 ectos to another who says he has 1000K in storage and no ectos, that he is poor and his friend with the maxed account should give him some money, after of course that ppl just finished buying his 4 set FOW armor. It's not the other ppl problem that he tends to save his money and only buy what he finds interesting. Who is the rich one, certainly not the ppl with a maxed account, it's the other ppl.

If you give any of those ppl who claim to have no money, money, it's spent in a day, sorry but stop your crying please.

rich and poor are really bad descriptors.

If a person has Party animal+drunkard+sweet tooth maxed, and 15k armor but has 0k+0ectos+0shards I wouldn't call that poor. <20k in the bank is kind of misleading.

I been a GW member since it's inception. I play casually about 20 hours a month, I don't own any elite armor. I've never had more than 22k across all ten of my characters. I don't deliberately farm. I usually sell all my drops to the merchant. I keep all my dyes, and have maybe 3 Ectos. None my characters have finished any of the campaigns. I'm halfway through prophecies.

I can't see myself ever acquiring more than 75k with just one of the ten characters I have. I don't always play the same character. I'm all over the place in each of their respective development.

Gold has never been a pivotal issue with me. I just save it for when I'm ready to buy something from the traders such as Runes, Insignias and of course armor.

Gold is a concern mainly to people who are vain about their appearence to others. Enough to them is never enough.

Enough gold to play the game is another question. Can you do it without player trading, or farming, and still compete with your skill alone? Yes, but what is enough for that?

Enough gold to be average is another question. Where is average? What is average?

There are far too many inturpretations of the question for this to be answered logically.

I'm not poor, but I sure ain't rich. I don't usually have a lot of gold on hand thanks to Vabbian Armor and my addiction to minipets. When I have a good amount of gold I find something to spend it on. Who cares, it's not like I gotta pay GW rent.

I believe it.

I feel bad for a lot of them sometimes. It's this mad weird paternal feeling I get. Then I realize they probably suck IRL so then I don't care.
was that really needed?

to the op:

the casual player, like my girfriend, who has never had more than 45k, gets by just fine if they can just apply simple budgeting to their purchases. money is really just to look cool, and even still, isn't hard to get at all in this game with a little trading skill.

I ere on the side of just not trying. lol. I could easy have loads of gold if I wished (when I was a more active player I had loads but because of spending in titles and 15K armor never had a whole lot in storage... never let it get close to 100k without buying armor and stuff like black dye), but I know personally for me I just do causal play lately since I went back to univ and when I do make money I spend it on armor still (I like to think of my chars as dress up Barbies... lmao left over from childhood methinks.) but I don't think for most people its being born wrong or lacking in enough skill to even get to 20k..... imo most of the players here who have 100k+ are within average in this certain community that actively posts..... in the GW playing community as a whole they would be more wealthy. I've seen many people in guilds who don't even come close to that. I think the definition of "average" is certainly skewed on these boards. The very nature of the boards themselves would indicate that the people posting fall into a more dedicated category of players......

Unless you know about an expensive item, you wont want to buy it. I dont think the majority of the GW population knows what an "armbrace" is, what a "mini mallyx" is worth or what "100k + 60e" means. Once they become aware of these expensive skins and want to get them, they now require money. People buy expensive armor, minis, weapons for 1 of 2 reasons; For glory (like showing off) or because they love their character so much and feel satisfaction when they achieve their goals. If you play fair then I find there isnt enough money. I dont count ebayers, dupers, scammers etc. I meet a lot of people who think 1-10k is a lot. I think its due to the fact that people are just ignorant. They dont know how much money is out there. They are ignorant about farm sites, ignorant on what to do, ignorant on current item prices, population psychology and sites like this. They just dont know where to start. I know for me, im ALWAYS late on the latest money trend. Ill find out at the last min about some prosperous farm run or overflowing mission run.

Things I missed out of because of my I simply had no idea they could be so prosperous:

-Droks run (back when it was 10k)
-Titan Gem farming (when titan gems were 100k +)
-Pre-nerf UW runs (when a smite run dropped 3 + ectos every run....and when ecto prices were above 10k)
-Mines of Morah run (when it was 3k a run)
-Raptor farming (I JUST tried it out, I love it)
Im almost at my first FoW armor. I think I could have done it faster if I had been informed earlier on. But I guess the fun is in the journey, finding out about all these new builds, runs and concepts and trying them out.

Ya, I use this to my advantage. If a guildie I dont like asks me for cash. I say I only have like 5k. Its true because I keep all my cash in the form of ectos, shards, armbrace and weapons. Its energy hiding for your cash. You let it, "regen" while no one can burn it. If you invest in the right things, particularly minis (like the pig), they only get rarer over time. See Guild Wars teaches us how to save money and have patience to get the things we want.

Being rich or poor varies so much... I remember when I started playing this, and got my first 10k. Wow. I was happy. When I got my first 50k, WOW. I never thought I'd be able to go over the 100k bar, then the 200k, and so on. Let's face it, I'm no powertrader and no extremely hardcore farmer, but I make cash at a decent rate...

... For my own "needs" (I'm an armor freak and well, I like having around 100k in storage in case of). What seems to me like a big amount is a VERY big amount to another guy, and only a fraction of what yet another guy has. It's all relative in the end.

I find goals, farm for the cash, buy, find another goal, farm some more... I've been functioning like this for nearly 3 years. To me, all it takes to get cash is dedication to that goal.

EDIT: Pudding over gold any day of the week.

For me, although I don't have enough to do everything I'd like right this second, that's perfectly fine. As was pointed out, you don't need money for the most part, and it's a great system.

I only started in November, get to play at least some almost every day, have managed to get max armor for the five characters I've gotten to play that far in the game and have more than enough on hand for the other five when I get around to moving them forward in their game careers.

The most I ever had was about 119 plat right at the peak of me running Canthan New Year quests this past weekend. Then 20K for a celestial rat and 20K worth of tickets later and it's back below the 100 mark, but it will come back.

I don't have "enough" money, but that's a good thing. When the time comes that I don't feel like there's anything I still want to do, that's when I'll shelve the game and move onto something else.

Should have added one more choice for your poll.

If I need gold I run CoF for tips.

Started today with 80k and currently have 120k, sold a shield on guru auction and ran CoF three times for tips. Made something like 40k in three hours. Bad part, before the weekend had 350k, spent three solid days on the afk rings.

I do have one gold sink, I kind of like the z-chest. I feel like kicking the thing everytime I open it, but I keep coming back for more.

If skills were 50-100g I'd vote 1, until they're reasonably priced I'm sticking with 2.

I get nervous when I have less than 200k in storage & stop buying things.

Some might think I was "rich" in game. I have multiple characters all will multiple sets of elite armors, a few sets of FoW, a mule full of minis, a handful of "rare" weapons, and a nearly full materials storage.

Compared to the rich & famous of GW I'm just a scrub.

I don't buy a lot of things, but I do tend to buy "expensive" things. The only title I've got that required loosening my purse strings involved buying 130 cap sigs.

I don't farm much, I'm not a power trader, but I DO absolutely pick up and merchant every single last drop I get. Been doing that for nearly 3 years & it's bought me just about everything I've ever wanted in game.
